January 21st 2009 - We just returned from Kalamazoo, MI, where Brandon, Shaun, and Ryan had
the privilege of helping lead worship for the Student Venture Fastbreak
Conference (about 200 HS students from the upper midwest). Bruce ran sound
for the event, and Julie "ran" lights. It was a busy 4 days of meetings,
rehearsals, free time, and community outreach. Along with leading worship,
Shaun also had the opportunity to talk about dating and relationships with
the girls during a breakout session. There's nothing like having the cute
drummer of the band tell the girls that he's not going to "date" until
college. I'm sure it was a let down for some of them, but one of the HS
girls handed Shaun a note the last day that was very encouraging.
To Ryan, Brandon, and Shaun,
"First of all I want to say thank you so much for everything you've
done. It’s weird to think about, but right when you got on stage I knew
you guys were going to impact my life and faith. I just never imagined you
could in so many ways - especially without me knowing you guys.
I have not sung along in worship in years, but the first day I was singing
and it was really meaningful. I even danced and just let go. I really
felt like I was talking to God, and it’s because of you all..."
She went on to say that she is going to wait to date and that she plans to
save her first kiss for the altar. She also plans to speak to her friends
about her decision to remain pure. We'll be praying that she remains
strong in her commitment.
On another front, you may be wondering what's going on with the CBS
Singing Family Face Off. As of this Friday, at 11:59PM, no more entries
can be made into the contest. The videos will still be viewable at the
site, but the judges will narrow the contestants down to 6 families some
time next week. It will be interesting to see who they pick. If we get
chosen, we'll know it's a miracle because there are so many talented
groups. We'll let you know if there are any new developments. In the
meantime, if you don't mind watching it again, maybe they'll be impressed
